The Raine-Michaux-Sydnor Family

    Moses Jean Rochette [Sedan, France] was the father of Suzanne Rochette.
    Suzanne came to America with her husband, Abraham Michaux II,

    and these are some of their descendants in America. Those who are
    directly descended from Abraham and Suzanne have Qualified Huguenot
    Ancestors and can become members of the National Huguenot Society

    Suzanne Rochet, was born to Moses Thiery Rochet (b.1615) and Suzanne Rondeau Rochet (b.1617) (who may have been the widow Roneau) in Sedan, Ardennes, France 13 Apr 1667. Suzanne allegedly was nicknamed "Little Nightcap" because of having been plucked from her bed for a nighttime boat escape from France to Holland on Oct 18, 1685. Suzanne Rochet married Abraham Michaux II on July 13, 1692 at the age of 25, in Old French Church, Amsterdam, Noord Holland, Netherlands.

    Abraham Michaux II b 23 Feb 1672, d. 13 May 1717 was born in Sedan, Champagne, France and christened the same day. He was son of Jacob Michaux and Ann Severin (Saurin) (26 Jan 1648/49); Dr. Stanard in his records claims Abraham was from Champagne, France. He was nephew to the Reverend James Saurin, a noted minister of the French Colony Church of Savoy in the Strand, London in 1703. Abraham Michaux II was a member of the French Church in Amsterdam, Jan. 28th, 1691 and later was registered at the Huguenot Church at Manakin Town on the James River in 1707. Abraham had a land grant from the Crown. Abraham Michaux II was a gauze weaver and Susanne Rochet was a lace maker.

    The couple left Amsterdam on May 8, 1701 for America where they settled on the James River in what is now Powhatan County, Virginia. Seven children were born of this union while in Amsterdam. These children were:

    Jacob lived opposite the Goochland Court House. In 1732, (the year George Washington was born). He had 150 acres in Goochland Co. He was first a tinker, later a planter. There were four children.

    Joseph married Judith on October 9, 1761 when she was 14. He was a Captain in the Revolutionary War. She was the daughter of Richard Woodson and Ann Smith Woodson of "Curles", Henrico, VA. There were ten children:
